Classic Traveller CD-ROM Observation

Due to the age of the material on the CD-ROM, all the stuff is obviously scanned in, and then run through a tool that can OCR the file. This is pretty obvious when you zoom in on the pages and see the letters get pixelated. Well, except for 4 books: the 1977 editions of Characters and Combat, Starships, Worlds and Adventures and the 1979 edition of High Guard. He did those books in a desktop publishing app. You can tell because the size of the file is a LOT smaller (8.2 MB vs 645K) and when you zoom in, the fonts stay crisp and clear. This makes me think that Marc couldn't find a nice clean copy of the original 1977 rules to scan in, so he recreated them. It's pretty amazing that he went through that to make sure that CD-ROM was "complete." The metadata of those files shows someone made them using Microsoft Word 2007. I'm going to guess that Marc did this himself, Hopefully, he can use those 1977 Word files to make new PDFs of the 1982 core books. submitted by /u/plazman30 [link] [comments]
